Challenge:
My professor needed a quick-start video to help novice users accomplish a realistic procedural task with their software or web-based product. The video needed to be concise, engaging, and aligned with principles of minimalism, while also addressing error recovery and reducing passive user engagement.

Skills:

  • Instructional design based on minimalism principles.
  • Screencasting techniques, including visual markers and effects.
  • Audio narration and editing with non-copyrighted music.
  • Application of CRAP principles and layout grids for professional composition.
  • Video production and editing to meet the MP4 format requirement within a 90-150 second runtime.

Solution:
I developed a quick-start video guide that allowed users to immediately begin to create a flowchart in Microsoft visio. The video features clear, step-by-step instructions, emphasized key actions with visual markers, and provided audio narration to enhance understanding. The design prioritized simplicity and professional aesthetics to create a polished final product.

Outcome:
The final video provided users with an effective and accessible resource to confidently complete the designated task. Its minimalistic design reduced cognitive load and fostered positive engagement, delivering a practical tool for the client’s user base.
