ifixit instructional guide
Challenge:
For a Principles of Technical Communication assignment, I was tasked with creating a detailed instructional guide for the iFixit website. The goal was to document a repair process for a household item in a clear, user-friendly format that met iFixit’s standards for technical accuracy and accessibility.
Skills:
- Instructional design and step-by-step documentation for repair tasks.
- Capturing high-quality images using an iPhone 14 to visually support instructions.
- Writing clear, concise, and user-focused repair steps tailored to iFixit’s audience.
- Incorporating feedback from the iFixit Technical Writing Team to refine the guide.
Solution:
I created a Fast Fix instructional guide for replacing an airbag clockspring. Using my iFixit account, I proposed the project, documented each repair step with detailed photos featuring my husband as the hand model, and uploaded the images and instructions to the iFixit platform. After receiving feedback, I made revisions to ensure the guide met professional standards.
Outcome:
The finalized guide provides users with a clear and accessible resource for completing the repair. This project demonstrated my ability to create effective instructional materials, combining technical communication principles with practical repair documentation.
